Happy New Year Everyone!
Why am I in such a chipper mood you ask?? Well, I am officially on vacation... that's right I do not have to go back to work until the 12th of January
What am I doing with this wonderful week?? Well, I am staying right here in beautiful Regina, Saskatchewan
This is actually going to be what I call a mini-blog as I only have a few pictures to post but I promise there will be at least one if not two coming later this week.
What's been happening? In a nutshell, I have been working seven days a week for December and Rob just got back from Costa Rica where he spent the month. I know what you're thinking so please don't even get me started as this will then no longer be a mini-blog.
This week Rob and I have big plans to get all of our field trips organized and posted as well as some more photo workshops and lots more new and exciting things that I can't mention right now so all of you will just have to wait on the edge of your seats as all will be revealed in future blogs lol...
As I mentioned earlier I have been so busy with work that I have not had much of an opportunity to shoot but here are a few of the pics that I did find the time for:

Shutter Speed- 1/5th sec, F 2.8, ISO - 1600, Focal Length - 100 Shot with a 100mm 2.8 Macro Lens

Shutter Speed- 1/6th sec, F 4.0, ISO - 1600, Focal Length 100mm shot with 100mm 2.8 Macro lens.
Okay, I know what you are all thinking ...or should be when you look at the settings that I had my camera on for these pictures. Why the heck was I shooting these at 1600 ISO...well, Rob would know the answer in a heartbeat... because I was too lazy to go to the car and get my tripod! Even at 1600 ISO I only got around 1/5th of a second of a shutter speed so they are definitely not tack sharp but after a bit of playing around in Photoshop...voila. Still, all that being said ... use a tripod!

I did happen to temporarily lose my sanity today and actually ventured outside to take some pictures. The temperature is a balmy -49 with the windchill and I think that I managed about 10 minutes if that. I am living proof of one thing though and that is that you rear end... and feet will definitely freeze in less than 2 minutes. The cool thing about shooting today (no pun intended) is that there was a
sun halo which I haven't seen very often. Apparently it is caused by ice crystals forming in the air when it's this bloody cold. Yes, for those of you questioning my abilities... I am a meteorologist. Okay, maybe not but at least I know how to spell it

Shutter Speed - 1/2000th sec, F 10.0, ISO 200, Focal Length 17mm shot with a Canon 10-22 USM using a Circular Polarizing Filter.

Why did I post 3 images relatively the same? Because it's just that cool that's why

Car - Honda Civic... Heading - South.... Speed - About 70 kph, Tires - new...or at least they were

Yes, these are indeed my tracks as I rushed out of town to shoot the elusive halo of the sun. This would be the point that I realized that it wasn't just a rainbow to one side of the sun but indeed a full halo around it...yipee...excited... why don't I just really quickly pull over to the side as I'm going 70 and grab my camera out of my camera bag as I am doing so and... yep, you get the idea... the shoulder is no longer a shoulder really but a pile of snow covered quick sand.
Yep... "I'm an excellent driver". Yes, that is a direct quote from
Rainman.
Well, that's it for now... I'm pretty sure that in the next blog we may even see some of Rob's pics from Costa Rica. That is if he even went there as I have yet to see a single image. Part of me just thinks that he said he was going and instead just hibernated in his basement for a month watching football and drinking the odd beer... I know, sad but true.
Have a great week! Wear a touque!!!
