Yep...once again I am a bit behind in posting an entry... I think to be more realistic I will say that I will do one every two weeks and then hope to get one done every week. Like they say, it's better to under promise and over deliver right??
What's new ...what's exciting?? Well, Rob went on a vacation out to Fairmont for a week. Apparently he only shot a few pictures as he ended up being sicker than a dog for the majority of his trip
I attended the Western Digital Photo Expo in Calgary last weekend. It was crazy busy as I think that half of Calgary decided to come out for the event but I still managed to learn a little bit and get around to see most everyone. I also took in a couple of their speakers which in my opinion is always a good idea as it never hurts to see others work to get new perspectives on occasion. Other than that, the other reason that I went to Calgary besides to visit friends was to get all of my Christmas shopping done. I am happy to announce that yes, I got it all done in half a day!! Yipee... I always try to finish by the end of October because as the closer that Christmas gets the less time that I have. That coupled with the fact that working in retail the last thing that I want to do anywhere near Christmas is leave the crush of people and go walking into another one!
Other exciting news...On Monday Rob and I taped an episode for CBC on what to look for when purchasing a digital camera...then on Tuesday I taped another episode on how to try to take better pictures of your children etc.. It was for a series called Living Saskatchewan and from what I gather they will be airing at the end of October and beginning of November. When Rob and I taped together the cameraman was laughing so hard I think he was crying at times...he then went on to say that we reminded him exactly of the show Home Improvement with Tim Allen and his buddy on Tool Time. Hmmm... not really sure what to make of that but I guess we tend to take shots at one another...rarely ... okay, to be perfectly honest I take way more at Rob than he does at me
Of course when we finished shooting we were told that the episode was not just going to run in Saskatchewan but was going to run Nationally... that kind of had me second guessing my decision to say "I think you just spit on me" to Rob while the cameras were rolling
Okay...I'm going to get to the photos as I am thinking of going for a long walk prior to the big turkey feast tonight. Truth be told if I was actually thinking that I was going to burn off the calories that are somewhat equivalent to what I will be eating tonight I would most likely have to participate in a triathalon as I do happen to be Ukrainian so most everything that is made includes some form of dill creamy goodness...and, onto some pics...
Some of the pics that Rob shot while in Fairmont.
I shot a couple of pics on my way home from Calgary. The colors were absolutely phenomenal and it really made me wish that I had more time. I decided instead of just sitting at the train tracks waiting for the train to pass I would take some pics to pass the time..
On my way to Calgary it was so windy that I was having a hard time keeping my little Civic on the road at times!! I found myself driving through a complete white out and had no idea where it had come from as I wasn't sure if a fire was roaring in a nearby field or what was going on as it was a blue sunny day. As I continued to slowly drive out of it I figured it out... it was the salt fields (at least I think it's salt) right around Swift Current. The wind was blowing so hard it lifted enough of the salt into the air to make it impossible to see... wonderful. I pulled over after I was through it to take a picture... it doesn't really do it justice but I figured that it wouldn't be the best idea to pull over to the side of the highway in a complete white out and get out of my car to take pictures...safety first!!!
A collage of pictures that Rob did for the
Regina Rams football team.
One day while I was out and about shooting some pictures of my daughter I saw that there were a ton of people over at the
skateboard park (which for the record I didn't know existed). I found out that it was a fairly large sponsored event so I wandered around and took some pictures. I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed shooting this. Obviously these pictures have been put through the paces in Photoshop but I wanted to give them a kind of comic book feel. I haven't looked up the data on all of the shots but I know that the skateboard ones were all shot using Aperture Priority with the F stop being 2.8 and the shutter speed between 1/500th and 1/100th of a second with the ISO set at 200 and as it started to get darker 400. I shot them all with a 70-200 2.8 lens.
A couple of the pictures that
Gil...aka... "Fuji" shot of Rob and I while we were taping the show. I must admit that this was a Hell of a lot harder than I thought it was going to be as I was nervous as Hell. Who knew that there are more than a few subtle differences between Angelina Jolie and I lol???
Well, that's it for now everyone. As far as the agenda for the coming week... we have more photo classes. Rob has tons of shooting that he will be doing for the University. Other than that we are really looking forward to the following week as we are going to go out shooting with my buddy Jim to try to get some snow geese and some pics of his falcon... cool
Have a great Thanksgiving weekend and try to get out to take some pictures as I have this sneaking suspicion that winter is actually on it's way as I speak :)
