Well... I managed to get through quite a few photos in record time. Partly due to the fact that I had the day off today...very strange after having had a few weeks off to come back to work for one day and then have another day off (but I like it).
I am quite happy with everything that got accomplished today. Rob and I managed to finalize some printing formats that we will be using for upcoming tradeshows and I also managed to edit most of my vacation pics. I haven't however quite gotten my keywording done as that seems to fall into the category of the thing that I will do as soon as I have absolutely nothing left on my plate which is not exactly a good thing as usually everything including having a nap or looking out the window seems to fall before that wonderful job lol. Rob and I also found some time to get out to Kiwanis Park today and test out some lighting... there will be a few photos of that at the end of the blog.
And now for some photos:
ISO-100, F 5.0, Shutter Speed 1/80th sec, Focal Length 12mm using a Canon 10-22mm lens with a Circular Polarizing Filter.
While out at
Barrier Lake in
Kananaskis I took this shot of one of the little streams running down the mountain into the lake. Call me crazy but this doesn't exactly look like the fresh clean water that it should be... mind you ... I'm not exactly a geologist or anything so it could just be the color that comes out of it if it is really high in minerals. Regardless, I sure wasn't about to drink any of it!
ISO-100, F 3.2, Shutter Speed-1/500th sec, Focal Length 100mm shot with a Tokina 100mm 2.8 Macro Lens
Now a bee I will get this close to... had this been a grasshopper on the other hand not a chance in He@#!!!
Peyton lake in
Banff National Park. It never ceases to amaze me how brilliantly blue the water is in the mountainous lakes.... wow, that almost sounded poetic for a minute there
I'm a sucker for driftwood... had I had a truck I would have filled it up and brought it home. Wait a minute... I think that may actually be illegal now that I think about it. Wouldn't that be hilarious to be arrested and thrown in jail by the driftwood police hee hee.
ISO-100, F 4.5, Shutter Speed- 1/250th sec, Focal Length 17mm using a Canon 17-55 2.8 Lens with a Circular Polarizing Filter.
A shot of the canoes out at
Lake Louise. You have no idea... or you probably do how difficult it actually is to be out there and take a picture without a zillion people in it... can you all say claustrophobia??? (Wow... I think that I may have even spelled that correctly on my first attempt... yehhaww!!).
Found this little (very big) guy along my happy trail. He (or is could be a she??) would let me get within a foot of him but every time that I went to take his picture he would turn his head away... then I would move around him and try again just to have him give me the cold shoulder yet again. Guess you had to be there but I was laughing hysterically after this went on for about 15 minutes
I decided to take the
Icefield Parkway between Lake Louise and Jasper one day. For those of you who have not taken this route I highly recommend it. It is a long winding slow drive through the mountains but literally around every corner you get views like the one above. It was right after I took this picture that I decided to pull over and have a little siesta in my car as I had been driving for about 9 hours at this point and was pretty much asleep at the wheel... closed my eyes and 2 full hours later I managed to wake up... I think the nap was a good idea!
Yipee... I made it all the way to the Ice Fields!! Holy crap... I think it's about -10 outside with the windchill !! Note to self... next time that I get out this way I will definitely be packing a winter jacket and a pair of pants as all that I had on was a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. I stood outside of my car in the parking lot watching everyone climb up the ice and took about 3 photos before I started to get frost bite ...wonderful :( Granted this is the best of them which doesn't say much but I had to post it just to prove that I actually got there!
This shot is up here just for fun. As I came around a corner there was a whole train of vehicles pulled over on the shoulder of the highway which in Banff can only mean one thing... that there is some form of wildlife in the immediate vicinity. In this case it happened to be a bear. The best part of this story is that there was this guy that was on the side of the road with this little point and shoot camera trying to get a photo but the vehicles kept going along the highway and every time he went to take a picture I think he got the side of someone's car... he was so mad that he started swearing and kicking peoples tires... basically lost his mind. Needless to say I took this out of my car window as I was driving by and no... he didn't kick my tire as I actually slowed down enough for him to shoot a picture

Not that I am typically a really nice person but more due to the fact that the guy was really really scary and I thought that he may actually follow me and try to run me off the mountain
After my long drive along the
Ice Field Parkway I came back down and veered off at
Saskatchewan Crossing and headed to Red Deer to see my friend Gary and do some more
Jet boating. For the record if you can avoid filling up with gas while going through Sask Crossing I would advise that you keep going as when I filled up it was $1.63/liter ... not that I would ever be one to accuse anyone of hiking up the price of gas but considering the fact that the next gas station is a very long drive away through the mountains... well... I'll just leave that one alone. Right, back to jet boating fun.
This river was much different than the one I had gone boating on the previous weekend as you can see by the photo above. It was very narrow, there were piles of rocks and trees and the current was insane
Hard to tell from this photo but I shot this while ducking going under it at about 70MPH.
And more delightful scenery along the way.
This... was not so delightful. If you are looking for an adrenaline rush then bouncing over rocks and running up onto a log jam at lightning speeds is for you! I can't repeat what came out of my mouth mid launch...or even shortly after this as I peeled myself out from underneath the inner front bowels of the boat where I ended up but I can tell you that it wasn't "golly gee that sure was swell" !! It took more than a couple minutes for us to get out of this mess. Ironically enough shortly after we got going again we ran into another boat that was stalled in the rocks and had to tow them back to the marina. I was one of the lucky two people who got to lie flat out on the front of the boat while we were towing the other one hanging on for dear life to try to keep the front down so that we could get some power to tow them. Hard to picture I'm sure but that part was actually more scary than crashing! And on that note I would like to thank the guy that was with me dangling over the front whose name I never quite got because if it wasn't for him holding onto me I'm sure that I would be about 300 miles upriver by now!
The last blog entry that I added did not even have one "making fun of Rob" photo in it. As I had previously mentioned we were out testing some lighting at Kiwanis Park today so I decided that I would add the following photos...
And here we have Mr. Robert Weitzel in a lovely jean and brown t-shirt ensemble holding this seasons must have accessory ... a lovely and ever s fashionable umbrella brought to you by Nikon.
So much that I could say about this one.... but I'm going to hold myself back. You should have seen the looks that he was getting from the other people in the park as he was kind of skipping and dancing along twirling the umbrella
Just to prove that I don't always post photos that make him look like a total goof-ball.
Well... that's it for now everyone. I'm not quite sure what this coming week will bring but I will keep you posted in next weeks blog. Who knows...maybe ROB WILL EVEN ADD SOME PHOTOS. Was it just me or did that almost look like I threw a very subtle hint in there??
Have a great week!
