Hello again everyone!
So as you can tell by the title of the blog... I'm not very impressed with the mosquito situation right now. I'm not exactly an entomologist but from the little that I do know I happen to believe the following to be true: Lots of rain = standing water = huge breeding ground for the West Nile carrying beasts = yuck. Just so you all know I have always been one to brag about the fact that for some reason mosquitos have never liked me... I have almost never had to wear spray of any kind and they just leave me alone ( I think that Rob believes this to be true due to the fact that I have some sort of alien blood running through my veins )... anywho... I went out to shoot the other evening and WOW... I honestly thought that I was about to be carried away and taken to the queen mosquito!! Oh, right... just remembered... that's bees that have a queen but I think that you get my point. That got me to thinking that I can't imagine how the people that actually do normally get bitten are coping with this?? I think that they have probably all packed up and moved up somewhere close to the North Pole or something by now
Okay...let's get back to photography for awhile. Rob is in the midst of shooting soccer all over the province for the SSA and is in Saskatoon as we (I) speak. I do believe that he told me that there was a total of 66 teams participating in this weekends tournament and I am no mathematician but I do believe that adds up to one heck of a lot of shooting...which adds up to one heck of a lot of editing which essentially means that we should all see Rob surface once again sometime in late August. We did however manage to get out for a little bit last Wednesday to take a few photos as well as scout out a couple of locations for future shoots.
Believe it or not that is going to end my rambling for now and I will post a few photos taken over the past few weeks. I will be taking a bit of a blog hiatus as I will be leaving for vacation at the end of the week and won't be back until the beginning of August but should have a lot to post then as I am hoping to head towards the mountains and may even end up somewhere in Colorado if the travel bug really strikes me...other than that you never know Rob may even be posting something as he did finally find a bit of time to start looking through some of the photos that he had taken when we went out shooting back in March
Okay...so I admit that this is not exactly an award winning photo but this cow and I had a bit of a stare off...started to freak me out just a wee bit lol...
A shot that I took on top of the store a few weeks back.

I know, I know... I'm a bit of a "tree" person and this happens to be one of my favorites... I think that I now have a picture of it in every season although I'm pretty sure that this is the only one that I have where my car is in the background :)

Yep... highly predictable... Canada Day fireworks. Now what I wish was highly predictable was where they were shooting them from. Now I realize that most likely everyone sans me in Regina knows that they shoot them off at Willow Island but this was the first Canada Day that I have spent in Regina so I had it in my head that they were shot right near the Legislative Building... went out a bit early... set up all of my gear near Douglas Park... waited....waited...waited...got bit by mosquitos... BAM the show begins... with a great big tree right in the way

Needless to say I didn't exactly get much but now I will know for next year.
Canola field near Regina.... hmmmm... it just hit me that I most likely didn't have to say that as I would hope that it is pretty obvious....next...
Rob taking a picture of the "swimming hole". It was really warm and I was kind of thinking that he should go for a dip...
I'm sure that he would have found the water to be really refreshing...hee...hee...
Rob shooting more of "The Swimming Hole". I'm thinking that they actually had this area roped off due to the fact that if you actually did walk a bit farther forward and fall in you would never be seen again....
I left work last Thursday night and drove like a madman (woman) out east of the city as that is where all of the tornado warnings were... after about an hour I pulled over and got exactly 2 shots before the torrential downpour hit. To be perfectly honest... this is not a really great photo but I am posting it in defiance as after almost 2 hours of driving I figured I'm damn well going to have something to show for it! That is besides the 4" of mud on the bottom of my runners :) On the upside as I was driving back to the city I'm still not entirely sure if my car was hit by lightning as I was driving. All that I know is that I was blinded by the flash of light and it was instantly really warm in the car...either way... it was really cool...well....after I realized that I wasn't on fire anyway.
For those of you looking for a little photo assignment to get your creative juices flowing again here's a challenge. Try finding all of the letters of your name (first and last) in your immediate surroundings... for those of you not following that what I mean is that if your name is Sherry for example then try to find an S such as the curve in a railing... the h could be the end of a park bench. Now to make it more of a challenge try not to use the entire city of Regina to do it... pick someplace like a park. It is a great exercise to get you to start looking for things around you that you may never otherwise see...
Well... that's it for now... I'm tired. Hope that you are all enjoying the summer so far.... back in a few weeks.
